# Advance! topics

The Advance! topics (also known as **post ID topics**^{[1]} or **"If this gets a post ID of X, we advance!" topics**^{[2]}) are a series of Text-based games with the goal of reaching a predetermined post count. Users can post as much as they like, and once the goal has been reached, a new topic is made (usually by the last poster of the last topic) with a different score, changed according to a specific sequence (usually). These topics otherwise have no rules (unless otherwise specified) and may simply serve as a place to dump random text, images, memes or ideas. They can also act as a place to chat between two or more users.

## List of Advance! variations[edit | edit source]

### Zero[edit | edit source]

A post ID of zero should not be naturally obtainable by a user, as topics start with a Post ID of #1. This topic was created by TonyBrown148 to serve as a hub for the Advance! topics. However, it is currently out of date, and some topics have not been added or have been lost.

### Powers of 2[edit | edit source]

The formula is 2^{n}, with *n* increasing by 1 upon advancing. The first topic was created by redgreenandblue, kicking off the series. The current goal is 65,536 or 2^{16} posts. This is by far the most popular topic. A topic with the goal of a post ID of 1 or 2^{0} was created by CoolTBGGaming and was instantly won since a topic's original post has an ID of 1.

### Powers of 3[edit | edit source]

The formula is 3^{n}, and is similar to the powers of 2 Advance! topic. The first topic was created by Byron_Inc_TBG, and the current goal is 729 or 3^{6} posts.

### Powers of 4[edit | edit source]

The formula is 4^{n}. The first topic was created by Incendiary and the current goal is 1024 or 4^{5} posts. This is effectively a faster version of 2^{n}.

### Powers of 7[edit | edit source]

The formula is 7^{n}. The first topic was created by solitaire and the current goal is 2401 or 7^{4} posts.

### Powers of 9[edit | edit source]

The formula is 9^{n}. The first topic was created by AA-Hadi and the current goal is 729 or 9^{3} posts. This is effectively a faster version of 3^{n}.

### Addition[edit | edit source]

The formula is simply *n*. The first topic was created by Kuq Mujq Gho, and reached 10 before being stopped by PkmnQ, who reported his own topic to end the series.^{[3]} It is thus the first series to have explicitly ended without reaching its final goal.

### Fibonacci Sequence[edit | edit source]

This series follows the Fibonacci sequence, with the goal being the sum of the previous 2 numbers. The first topic was created by TonyBrown148 and the current goal is 144 posts.

### Digits of Pi[edit | edit source]

This series progresses by adding digits of the mathematical constant Pi to the goal, advancing by placing the next digit of Pi at the end of the previous goal. The first topic was created by gilbert_given_TBG and the current goal is 3141 posts.

### Digits of E[edit | edit source]

This series is similar to the Digits of Pi topic, but uses the mathematical constant e, also called Euler's Number. The first topic was created by Incendiary and the current goal is 2718 posts.

### Races[edit | edit source]

This series pits users against the current Powers of 2 Advance! topic. If they can reach their goal before the 2^{n} topic does, they advance. The first topic was created by CoolTBGGaming, but no new topic has been made to race against the 32,768 topic or the 65536 topic (that is known).

### Personal posts[edit | edit source]

This series pits other users against each other as one person tries to reach a certain post goal before everyone else. The goal advances in the same way as the Powers of 2 topic. The first topic was created by PkmnQ and the current goal is 512 posts.

### Tetration[edit | edit source]

Tetration is a mathematical operation based on repeated exponentiation. The sequence is 2^{2}, 2^{22}, etc. The first topic was created by gilbert_given_TBG and the current goal is 65536 posts.

### Pages[edit | edit source]

Instead of posts, this series advances based on the number of pages in the topic, with the formula being 2^{n}. The first topic was created by Luigis_Pizza, and the current goal is 16 pages.

### View Count[edit | edit source]

Instead of posts, this series advances based on the view count of the topic, with the formula being 10*2^{n}. However, these topics have been viewbotted to artificially increase the view count. The first topic was created by gilbert_given_TBG and the current goal is 2621440 views.

### Global Post IDs[edit | edit source]

These series' advance based on the number of posts in the entire forum, rather than in the topic. Once the number of posts in the entire forum reaches the goal, the topic is closed and a new topic is made. There are three versions of this series: Hundred Thousands, Ten Thousands, and Millions.

#### Hundred Thousands[edit | edit source]

In the Hundred Thousands series, 100000 is added to the goal when a topic is advanced. This is the first global post ID series. The first topic of this series was created by gilbert_given_TBG and the current goal is 800000.

#### Ten Thousands[edit | edit source]

In the Ten Thousands series, 10000 is added to the goal when a topic is advanced. The first topic in this series was created by TonyBrown148 and no topic after 650000 was found.

#### Millions[edit | edit source]

In the Millions series, 1000000 is added to the goal when a topic is advanced. This series was created by gilbert_given_TBG and the first topic, 1000000, has yet to be completed.

### Counting[edit | edit source]

Instead of posts, this series advances based on a separate count that users are free to either increment (by no more than 1^{[4]}) or ruin. Once the count reaches the goal number, the topic is locked and a new one is started with double the goal, much like the 2^{n} topic. The first topic was created by gilbert_given_TBG and reached 128 before being stopped by Luigis_Pizza to end the series, similar to the Addition series.^{[5]} It is thus the third series to end before reaching its final goal, after Ascending Primes.

### X Posts without stopping for over 24 hours[edit | edit source]

The aim of this series is for users to reach the post goal without stopping for more than 24 hours, i.e. if there has been more than 24 hours since the last post, the count is reset. The formula is 10*n with n increasing by 1 when advancing. If more than 10 resets occur, an additional 12 hours are added to the timeframe until the goal is reached. A special rule is in place where users can post up to 3 times to advance the count, and they can post more than 3 times to save the topic or bump it, but it wouldn't advance the count. The first topic was created by Incendiary and the current goal is 90 posts.
